About Lakewoood Cooperative Preschool
Lakewood Co-op Preschool provides a stimulating and nurturing play-based environment where children and families from all backgrounds work together in the classroom and grow together in community.
A Long Rich History
Lakewood has a long, rich history in the community and is highly respected for its nurturing of children and families. The co-op preschool is an example of caring people, working cooperatively for the positive growth and development of young children and their parents. Everyone works, learns, teaches, grows and changes! Co-op parents are supporters, learners, teachers, classroom assistants, policy makers and partners. The co-op environment allows parents to increase their understanding of the growth and development of children, both individually and in a group. The co-op is a place where we all grow according to the amount of time, energy and effort we put into this commitment.

Flexible, coop parents, working toward the goal of an efficient, smooth running preschool are presented with opportunities to share ideas involving family life, parenting, family and home environment. We encourage all of our members to take advantage of their co-op experience and participate fully and enthusiastically both in the classroom and during parent meetings.

Lakewood Co-op Preschool is committed to providing an anti-bias environment for children, adults and families.

About Seattle Central Community College
Since Lakewood Co-op is affiliated with Seattle Central Community College (SCCC), the co-op parents are enrolled as students at SCCC in a vocational adult education course entitled Parent Child Study Laboratory. Your major responsibilities as a parent education student include acting as a classroom assistant, performing a preschool job and attending a monthly parent education meeting one evening a month. Through the affiliation with SCCC, Lakewood Co-op is connected with other co-op preschools in our area to stay informed on issues regarding young children. SCCC also supports continuing education for your child's teacher and the Parent Educator, through workshops, classes, and meetings. The interconnectedness and supportive network of the co-op system helps families to grow stronger, enriches their lives with new friends and experiences and empowers parents to find resources for themselves and their children.
